Oh....here are some good memories.  Aunt Chris and Jackie joined us...Amy and Matt weren't even engaged yet...Lucy was 9-months old...Eli and Avery were just dreams in our hearts...

Deep in the Heart of Texas!

I am long overdue in posting these pictures from our trip to Texas earlier this Spring.  I got the Easter pictures up earlier...but here are some other shots of our adventure.  

We had a wonderful afternoon over at Stacy and Chris' home.  Stacy and her twin brother, Scott, have been my friends since first-grade.  Our homes were one street apart and we were in the same Church Youth Group.  Scott and his wife, LeAnn, have a daughter, Emily...she is 3-months older than Eli.  It was great to get the kids together and visit!  

We love to talk walks around the pond at Mom and Dad's house...it is quite a crew once you include the dogs too...Rusty and Forrest.  

The library where Mom works was recently renovated...we visited for storytime.  

We love, love, L.O.V.E to eat on Mom and Dad's patio!  

Texas has way more than it's fair share of Mexican restaurants and most of them serve this delicious drink...a margarita and sangria swirled together...yum!  

Deep in the heart of Texas, you'll see bluebonnets, longhorns...and Lucy's favorite "purple trees."  

School's Out For Summer!

Lucy had her last day of school yesterday!  It was such a fun year, but she seems very excited about summer and understands that she won't go back to school until she is 4.  Here she is with a picture she colored - she did one for each teacher.  I interviewed her about her year...here's what she said:

Mommy:  "Tell me about your teachers."
Lucy:  "Well...Miss Shelli helps me go to the bathroom and Miss Leesa helps me with my crafts."

Mommy:  "What songs did you like to sing at school?"
Lucy:  "Jesus Loves Me; Jesus Loves the Little Children; Wheels on the Bus; Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes"

Mommy:  "What did you do when you played outside?"
Lucy: "Well...swing."

Mommy:  "Which classmate did you play with the most?"
Lucy: "Gianna"

Mommy:  "What did you enjoy most about school?"
Lucy:  "When my friends played with me."

Mommy: "What are you excited to do this summer?"
Lucy: "I am excited to swim!"

Lucy thought this "interview" was great fun, so she wanted a piece of paper and pencil and decided it was her turn to ask the questions.  She asked me "what is your favorite song right now?" (American Honey by Lady Antebellum) and "what car do you like to drive?" (our van.)  Through her answers, I've realized that I begin a lot of my statements with "well..."  Funny girl!

Celebrating Mother's Day!

Mom and I had so much fun preparing a yummy brunch to celebrate Mother's Day!

Each person's place card had a question for them to answer about their Mother. Here's a summary of the answers:

Share a childhood memory about your mother.

Fred talked about going to the Tennessee State Fair with his Mother and Aunt when he was between 4-7 years old. As they were walking to their car, it started raining really badly and Fred fell down...he remembers his mother coming back to get him and the two of them running through the rain to their car.

Dad talked about a crazy Weimaraner named "Vonn" their family had when he was young. Dad had two younger brothers, so Grandma was very busy keeping up with three boys! Apparently Vonn liked to use his long legs and would run-away...multiple times a day...and Grandma would have to chase after him. After many running-away episodes, Grandma convinced Grandpa to give Vonn to another family and the family got a Dachshund (a dog with much shorter legs!)

Kay talked about how much her Mother enjoyed flowers. She grew roses and zinnias in her garden and enjoyed arranging them. Kay still enjoys the irises she transplanted from her Mother's home.

Mom talked about how she remembers entertaining at their home during the summer because they had a backyard. Mom said that preparing brunch with me made me think about the times she would spend with her Mom and Sister getting ready to entertain family and friends.

What does your Mother like to do in her "free" time?

Kelly talked about how Kay enjoys preparing her Bible lesson and reading...especially Jane Austen. Kay has spent a lot of time recently serving as contractor for their major bathroom renovation.

How are you like your Mother?

Chris credits both of his parents for his work ethic, but said that he remembers his Mom getting up at 4:30am on school mornings to cook them breakfast and make sure they were prepared for school.

I talked about how Mom and I both enjoy reading and shopping. I also said that we're both "inclusive"...we like to include others. I really could go on and on about Mom...it was so wonderful to have her here to "mother" me! Here's Lu with the Mother's Day pot she made for me at school...the flowers are her finger-prints...home-made gifts are the best! I want to wish a very special Mother's Day wish to Amy...she celebrated her FIRST Mother's Day today!

a GRAND week...

Eli and Lucy have enjoyed spending time with their awesome GRANDparents this week!

We celebrate Fred's birthday on Monday evening. My mom arrived on Wednesday and went with us to Lucy's school carnival on Thursday. And, Dad arrived today (Friday)...in time for dinner and dessert in downtown Franklin.

Lucy with her friend, Henry...I've spotted them holding hands (!) a few times and there was an attempt at a kiss that was stopped by their teachers. Henry's father said we should be nervous if Henry is indicative of the type of boy Lucy will like!
