A Looth Tooth...

Lucy announced during our church service last Sunday that her tooth was very loose.  We saw the dentist in August and the hygenist said her two front ones were somewhat loose, so this wasn't a complete surprise.  She spent the entire week wiggling it and doing lots of good mirror-gazing.

We went to Parker's birthday party yesterday afternoon and Lucy wasn't her normal spunky self.  The tooth was VERY LOOSE by then (6 days after the first mention of it...) and there was some blood....ewwwwwwww.  It was hanging on by a thread (or whatever that is called...maybe tissue?) and someone mentioned that I should pull it.  Lucy agreed...I gave it two tugs and it was out!  She was thrilled!  Many thanks to my kind friend Andrea who documented the whole thing!  As I was tugging Lucy's tooth, Chris was sitting on Ava and Parker's kid-size picnic table and the whole thing collapsed...so we both had some drama going on, but all ended in smiles!

Lucy got these first two teeth at the same time...at six-months old in February 2007.

Here's the "before tugging" shot...the tooth is R.E.A.D.Y. to come out, it's hanging and pointing sideways!

A little tug from me!  (Like the costumes?  We're "sister cowgirls!"...Lucy's idea...she makes my heart so happy!  More costume pics later...)...you can almost see Chris behind me falling through the table!

When we got home from the party, Lucy said she wanted to keep the tooth, but still wanted the Tooth Fairy to visit....uh-huh.  So, this creative mama said, "just write the Tooth Fairy a note, I'm sure she'll understand."  Chris quietly reminded me that any precedent set needs to be maintained for many, many teeth in this family.   So, the Tooth Fairy responded with a short note (written with her right-hand) and $2...and the tooth remained in the bag for Lu to keep.  Lucy took her $2 and tooth to church today and showed it to everyone who made eye-contact with her.  She is thrilled, we are staring at the new tooth that we can already see (!), and another milestone is here!  The mirror-gazing continues...that 2nd tooth is pretty wiggly now too!  WOW!

  1. read this with an extra bit of emotion as we just - just like Lucy - got our first two bottom teeth at six months. Did Lucy really eat a sugar cookie after she got her teeth!?! Trying to think of some craft project for you and what may soon be your collection of teeth (actually, ewewww)...
